Super green initiatives

Since the 1990s, Sharp’s Super Green Strategy has aimed to establish environmentally sustainable domestic and overseas manufacturing systems and to maintain the corporation’s position as a leader in solar cell manufacture.

The super green initiatives look at every aspect of the manufacturing processes, from extracting natural resources to the end product and its disposal, literally from “cradle to grave”. Every stage from production to disposal is evaluated including:

The management and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
Minimising energy usage
Minimising waste generated during manufacture
Minimising use of natural resources
Managing chemical substances
Reducing the burden on the atmosphere/water/soil
Maintaining harmony with nature and with the community
Promoting environmental consciousness
Recycling
Disclosing and communicating our environmental performance externally through independently assessed annual environmental reports

These aspects are continually monitored, controlled and scored against stringent environmental performance objectives. Factories have to achieve exceptionally high scores to gain the internal award of “Super Green” status.
